The figure of St. Luke looms large out of both the New Testament and the pages of documented human history so that nearly two thousand years after his death his image is undiminished. His fellow apostle St. Paul called him the "glorious physician," but that was only one of the talents which this magnificent man applied in service to God.
St. Luke is renowned for having painted the image of the Mother of God with her permission. Thus he is deemed the first icon painter.
This icon is based on New Zealand icon painter Aidan Hart's painting of St Luke, and was completed at one of his 5-day courses in Shropshire, UK.
